UAE Day 94: selfie

UAE Day 93: Club Read-a-Lot

So I started an academic club on campus for reading with the help of my two fav librarians.  It's got about a dozen girls that come regularly, but thats only the population from their grade-level, so-to-speak.  It hasn't been advertised even within my department yet, just a few classes know about it.

They always want to start out with romantic stories.

UAE Day 90: In love with Dubai

The malls in Dubai are also the place were you go to the doctor, pay your utilities, and set up your internet.  You can easily spend 11 hours inside and feel like you didn't get everything done.  How can you not be in love with a mall that sports large displays of this?

UAE Day 90: Center for Cultural Understanding

Traditional Breakfast

This presenter is a student at Dubai Women's College.  She is fluent enough in English to do Q & A sessions with expats and tourists who want to improve their cultural understanding of UAE/Islam.

UAE Day 88: Happy Birthday

I was attacked by 18 teenaged girls armed to the teeth with sephora bags.  they argued a lot towards the end.  they feel both my eyebrows and lips are too small and struggled to agree on the best technique for dealing with these shortcomings.  Still, they were proud of their result.  he he he

UAE Day 78: what's cooking? Not me!

The evening started out with the delivery of the stove, which could not be installed because of some problem with the wrong kind of electrical outlet.  Then the electrician was summoned and installed a new outlet for just 150 USD.  Stove people have to come back to do the installation.  No idea when that will happen.  While the electrician was doing his thing with the handyman/doorman, I noticed that a bathroom I don't use often had urine-water leaking out of the toilet somehow.  It smelled really nasty, so I pointed that out to the doorman/handyman who smeared it about with toilet paper and noted the issue.  No idea if that was the solution or not.

Wires being run from the hallway through my ceiling and into my kitchen.

Adding another support to the counter since they knocked one out to make space for the dishwasher installation a while back.  Yellow hat is my electrician.  During the work, my neighbours came to complain (around 7 pm) about the noise.  They were disturbed from their afternoon naps.  These are the same neighbours whose children run the halls shrieking at midnight.  I just shrugged and said they had to do the repairs.  They tossed some sour words in a language I don't speak to the men.  Ladder and tools were finally collected at 11 pm.
