Armenia Day 2: The Yezidi People

The Yezidi people are a distinct ethnic-linguistic group that is scattered in Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Iran, and Armenia. These people have face multiple genocide pograms throughout different military campaigns over generations (at the hands of the Ottoman Empire in Turkey, the political revolution in Iran, and  most recently at the hands of ISIS in Iraq). They are monotheists who believe that the angel Gabriel taught them their religion before the world was created and that they brought it with them into this world.  I was lucky enough to meet the family who runs the Yezidi Union, which publishes its own newspaper and runs its own radio show (which the Armenian government has given them, in addition to courses of Yezidi language).

I was later gifted this now, which I've now framed.  Everything contained is symbolic.

Peacocks are symbolic of the angel Gabriel who gave them their religion and also represent different holy motifs.

Each Yezidi home has a spiritual area for prayer.  This it it in this home.
